FAQs

SIDING

Q-In choosing an exterior siding product, how does vinyl siding compare with other products?
A-Vinyl is a durable choice that offers a variety of styles and If produced by a quality manufacturer, it will provide up to a lifetime of maintenance free service

Q-Is there a difference in vinyl products?
A-Due to the fact that vinyl is a chemical composition, there is a definite difference between manufactured products. Quality vinyl contains a high level of impact modifiers and special weathering chemicals such as titanium dioxide and geloy to guard against the elements. This is the case regardless of the product, siding or windows

Q-Considering the exterior choices available, are there other materials better than vinyl?
A-Alternative materials such as brick, stucco imitations and wood may provide the particular architectural style you are seeking. However, none will outlast quality vinyl siding

Q-Does vinyl siding add resale value to a home?
A-With the addition of vinyl siding, your home will retain it's original, like new look throughout its life. This, along with providing a maintenance free solution to potential buyers, will ensure the highest resale value possible

Q-If I need new siding what should I expect the contractor to do?
A-The contractor will measure the exterior of your home to determine the number of Squares (each Square is 100 SF) needed. It is recommended that you think about replacing your Gutters, Down Spouts, install Gutter Covers. Also trim work, this is covering your Fascia, Rake, Frieze board, Garage door jam, and Capping around your windows with colored Aluminum coil material and covering your Soffit with Vinyl Soffit material. This finishes the exterior of the house along with the Siding and makes for not only a beautiful exterior but a maintenance free exterior as well.

The Warranty is transferable. This is a good selling point if you decide to sell your home.

The price should include removal and disposal of all old materials and all new materials needed to complete the exterior according to your requirements. The only thing that would be extra would be wall sheathing or studs that needed to be replaced because of rot, due to water damage or termite damage. In most cases the contractor would not be able to determine this until the old siding is removed.

WINDOWS

Q-Why not buy a low cost(cheaper), vinyl window product?
A-A cheap vinyl window has potential devastating effect to a home and to the buyer. Most of these products are made with inferior vinyl compositions mixed from recycled vinyl. The working parts tend to be of low quality, lasting just a few years before breaking. Contractors who use these products tend to also shop for the lowest price labor. This can lead to water damage, air infiltration and potential warranty violations.

Q-If I decide to replace my windows what should I expect the contractor to do?
A-The contractor will measure each opening for a proper fit of the replacement windows. Each window is manufactured according to the measurements for each window provided by the contractor. The price should include removal and disposal of old windows. Installation of new windows, caulking inside and outside for proper sealing and capping around the window on the outside if needed. The only extra charge would occur if the window sill or jam is rotted and had to be replaced. In most cases there is no way the contractor would know this until the old window is removed

Q-What kind of replacement window should I get?
A-Get a good Quality window that is ENERGY STAR rated. There are good quality windows at reasonable prices. I recommend the Simonton 5500.
The Warranty is transferable. This is a good selling point if you decide to sell your home. Find out what manufacturer your contractor recommends and research their web site.

ROOFING

Q-If I need a roof replacement what should I expect the contractor to do?

A-You should expect the contractor to remove and dispose of the old roofing materials. Inspect the roof sheathing for rot or water damage and replace This is normally an extra charge because there is no way a contractor can know how much, if any, roof sheathing needs to b replaced until all the old materials are removed. Install 30 Lb felt, Ice Shield and at least 30 Yr shingles. I recommend 50+ Yr shingles( You only have to do it ounce, the Warranty is transferable and it is a good selling point if you decide to sell your home. All of the above should be included in your price, with the exception of roof sheathing replacement.

Q-What are Ridge Vents and why put the on?
A- A ridge vent runs the entire length of the roof peak, blending into the roofline for a more attractive home. Years of research prove that a ridge vent with external baffles and an internal weather filter, combined with "under eave" venting, is the most efficient system you can install.

Ridge Vent Benefits:
Works year-round, Provides evenly distributed ventilation along the entire underside of the roof 18 square inches of net free area per linear foot (depending on type and model) Slim design, visual appeal Provides a higher volume of airflow per square foot of attic area than any other fixed-vent system Design maximizes airflow across the entire underside of roof sheathing Changes in wind direction have no significant effect on vent performance

DOORS

Q-What kind of replacement Entry Door should I get?
A-Get a good Quality Entry Door that is ENERGY STAR rated. I recommend Provia( Formerly Precision Doors). They have a large selection of Entry, Storm doors and lock sets. You can even specify different colors on the inside and outside of the entry doors and type of lockset. The Warranty is transferable. This is a good selling point if you decide to sell your home.

Q-If I decide to replace my Entry Door what should I expect the contractor to do?
A-The contractor will measure the opening for a proper fit of the replacement Entry Door. Each Entry Door is manufactured according to the measurements for the opening provided by the contractor. The price should include removal and disposal of old Entry Door. Installation of new Entry Door, caulking inside and outside for proper sealing and capping around the Entry Door on the outside if needed and installation of trim on the inside. The only extra charge would occur if the door jam is rotted and has to be replaced. In most cases there is no way the contractor would know this until the old door is removed.
